5 Common Compliance Mistakes MSBs Make (and How to Avoid Them)

Avoid costly errors with this quick guide to the most common compliance pitfalls.

What is FINTRAC?

FINTRAC stands for the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada. It’s Canada’s national financial intelligence unit responsible for detecting, preventing, and deterring money laundering and terrorist financing activities.

FINTRAC operates under the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and monitors financial transactions across various sectors, including MSBs.

Giving Yourself Permission to Feel

It’s okay if you don’t want to celebrate.
 It’s okay if you cry.
It’s okay if you feel nothing at all.
Grief is deeply personal, and so is the way we move through it. Don’t feel pressured to “put on a brave face” for others. Let yourself feel what you feel, without judgment.

Ways to Cope on Father’s Day

  • Write a letter to him — Share updates, memories, or how much you miss him.
  • Light a candle — A small but symbolic act of remembrance.
  • Visit a meaningful place — Where you used to go together or where you feel closest to him.
  • Talk to someone — Sometimes, speaking about your father can bring comfort and connection.
  • Do nothing — If the best thing you can do is rest, that’s enough.

You’re Not Alone

If this Father’s Day feels heavy, reach out. Whether it’s a friend, support group, therapist, or spiritual guide — sharing your grief can lighten the burden just a little. Grieving on Father’s Day doesn’t mean you’re stuck. It means you loved deeply. And that’s something to hold close.
